OPEN ACCESS TOOLS:
After attending workshops on specific skills, students receive a sticker on their ID cards — which they receive the first time they visit the BDW — that allows them to freely use the BDW’s maker space and related tools. Our monitors are passionate about sharing skills and facilitating a safe and welcoming space where everyone has the tools to explore the joy of making. We have a wide range of interests and skills— check out our monitor bios to learn more.
INTRODUCTORY WOOD WORKSHOP (1-1.5 hours)
The filtering parts of the masks were fine, but the elastic and other structural parts were worn out. So Bull and a few students used 3D printers to make molds in which silicon mask parts could be cast. The silicon serves as a sort of scaffolding to which filter material from old masks can be attached, turning a previously useless mask into a useful one. “I’m excited to see what the monitors in training can come up with in terms of new ways to engage with tools and host workshops after this semester,” Baek added. The BDW runs skill-based workshops for students, which are offered on a first-come first-serve basis with no registration required. According to Baek, workshops range “from more standard ones like sewing and woodworking to advanced classes like,” computer numerical control.
ADVANCED WOOD WORKSHOPS (30 min-1 hour)

Jake has led some of the most complex projects in the firm and enjoys teaching others, and shepherding projects through implementation. He continues to evaluate, test and incorporate new design software tools, develop a standardized, well-integrated process and train staff across eight studios. Working in our Denver studio, he offers a thoughtful, individualized approach to every project, seeking to understand the larger systems that influence the design and details that create successful, lasting places. Over his career, Micah has accumulated a body of work that includes streetscapes, urban design and mobility studies, open space design, and community master plans. Through passion, discipline, and humility, Mike has earned him the respect and long-term collaboration with many of the nation’s most progressive architectural design voices.
